Values are presented in easy-to-understand scenes, which teach children the right thing to do in different situations. Projects enable children to use their imagination and incorporate what they are learning into reality.

Jolly Phonics is a fun and child centred approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, the multi-sensory method is very motivating for children and teachers, who can see their students achieve. The letter sounds are split into seven groups as shown below.

Letter Sound Order
The sounds are taught in a specific order (not alphabetically). This enables children to begin building words as early as possible.
How does Jolly Phonics work?
Using a synthetic phonics approach, Jolly Phonics teaches children the five key skills for reading and writing. The programme continues through school enabling the teaching of essential grammar, spelling and punctuation skills.

The five skills taught in Jolly Phonics

1. Learning the letter sounds
Children are taught the 42 main letter sounds. This includes alphabet sounds as well as digraphs such as sh, th, ai and ue.
2. Learning letter formation
Using different multi-sensory methods, children learn how to form and write the letters.
3. Blending
Children are taught how to blend the sounds together to read and write new words.
4. Identifying the sounds in words (Segmenting)
Listening for the sounds in words gives children the best start for improving spelling.
5. Tricky words
Tricky words have irregular spellings and children learn these separately.

The software enables teachers to deliver lessons in a fun and engaging way to children, using a wide variety of activities. With all the resources a teacher requires at the touch of a button, the programme is fun and easy to use. The Android software also enables the teachers to download all the latest educational apps, to make classes more exciting & more importantly letting the kids engage first hand by using the touch screen.

The method is now in widespread use in schools across the UK and the USA. It is a special time to share finger plays, chants, rhymes, sing songs & read a story. It is a time to participate in movement games and relaxation activities. Circle time provides a time for listening, developing attention span, promoting oral communication, and learning new concepts and skills. It is a time for auditory memory, sensory experiences, socialization, and a time for fun. Circle time can be a complex, dynamic interaction among adults, children, and resources used. Teachers have the power to make group time more effective and enjoyable for all involved. It also has roots in social group work and in solution focused therapeutic approaches. Creating an environment that is stimulating, inspiring and welcoming is essential for schools, and flooring is an important element to consider. Good design can positively affect student learning and teacher satisfaction, and there are many ways in which educational carpets can benefit such environments. Carpets can be a useful way of creating flexible learning spaces and increasing comfort for students and teachers. Another positive use of carpets is the children’s health, the biggest risk factors for an asthma attack is the inhalation of substances and particles that may provoke the airways. Many studies suggest that walking on hard surface floors disturbs more particles causing them to become airborne, but in comparison on carpet, particles remain in the soft fibers, until vacuumed away, resulting in less dust in the breathing zone. In Hambaazy we are proud that every classroom has one of these amazing carpets!

Our Art program goes hand in hand with our Pockets program in English, which helps small children develop their fine motor skills as they have to cut paper and even stick things together.

Creative Art helps children focus. Completing a craft takes determination and some amount of focus and discipline. As the result is satisfying and personally rewarding, children will want to finish it so they can show off the final product to their parents and friends. When we are supervising and guiding the children, there will be instructions to be followed. This will help children with their listening skills. Children are taught new words like “glue”, “stick”, “wax”, “cardboard” – basically anything that we use in the craft. By starting small, with crafts, children learn the satisfaction and pride of completing a project.

Crafting allows children to be creative and use their imagination. Often if you leave your child to do arts and crafts on their own, they will come up with some odd image or shape that looks unidentifiable to you. When you ask them what it is, then you will see how creative and imaginative your child is. You’ll be amazed with what they might come up with.
As creating crafts takes time and demands that the child focus, it also requires patience. Child will learn that everything is not easy to come by with the snap of their fingers.

Our pupils learn basic music skills, and learn to play musical instruments with skilled musicians with many years of experience teaching small children. Alongside playing music our children sing nursery rhymes and songs, this enables children as young as babies develop their language and communication skills from an early age. Introducing children to a variety of nursery rhymes can help them understand and learn about different sounds. This is an important part of developing those early literacy skills.

Physical education gives children the opportunity to be active. It gives children early exposure to team sports, and promotes good physical fitness. Children who participate in physical education get a weekly workout, and they also learn the importance of exercise as a lifelong habit. Our professional P.E teacher has many years’ experience in this field and working with young children.

Each level has a different exercise regime that is age appropriate for their level.

In Hambaazy we believe that teaching children to swim and encouraging them to swim regularly can have significant benefits for both his/her health and safety. Especially on a hot day, swimming is a way to keep cool while encouraging a healthy level of physical and social activity. Take your kids to indoor pools in the colder months to promote an active lifestyle all year long. Swimming provides a more effective workout than some other activities.

Swimming classes are available throughout the year, under the supervision of qualified swimming instructor.
